The Real Big Boss
So I goofed yesterday and mismatched the blog post title and photo. This is the one I meant to post under "Big Boss."
I couldn't resist taking a closer look at the "hip hop watches' in the window of the other store, and this is what I found:
Now I love our president as much as the next person, but I just can't understand the desire to wear an Obama watch--especially when the watch face is a 3-inch-diameter, faux-diamond-encircled picture of him. There are even watches with a portrait of the entire Obama family. Now that's definitely strange. I wish I could have zoomed in to show you better, but I don't have a digital camera at the moment so I've just been using my phone's camera.
As a side note (and possibly an explanation for my having posted the wrong picture yesterday), I've started a second job in the evenings. So my days go something like: teach ESL in the morning, errands/writing/yoga in the afternoon, restaurant work in the evening.
I'm hoping that eventually the restaurant work will be lucrative enough that I can quit the other job, but we'll just see how it goes. The silver lining: I have yet another reason to finish writing my book already, so I can step off the work treadmill and earn a living from writing. That is my master plan. Ready, set, go!

Love the Big Boss sign!
When JFK was alive, and especially after he was assasinated, his picture was on EVERYTHING from coins, to coffee cups, to velvet wall hangings. The list goes on and on. Somehow people just know that this is a crucial time in history with a very popular man at our helm. No doubt you will see Obama's picture on many items for a very long time.
BTW, you can almost tell how old folks are when you enter their homes and they have certain memorabilia placed around. :)
You know that's so funny cuz I was thinking along the same lines about our latest president. I was thinking about how someday when I'm old and gray maybe I'll get interviewed by some reporter or journalist about what it was like to vote for Obama!
And I have to admit, though I do roll my eyes when I see the collectors' plates and watches, it does make me smile :) What a change from the merchandise that was popular when Bush was president! Remember those page-a-day calendars filled with all the ridiculous things he said?
Like: "The French don't even have a word for entrepreneur."
Those watches are looking pretty good all of a sudden...
