Leafy lady

I came upon this semi-hidden gem the other day--it's scary how normal Catholic iconography is starting to look to me. At least two or three residences per block will have something: a photo of the pope, Jesus/Mary statues, crucifix stickers in the window, etc. There is one house that has a statue of Mary on the patio and next to her a donkey pulling a cart. The best one I've seen so far though is the pope flanked by two plastic deer. I forget where I saw that one, but I'll track it down and post it here.

Even better, though, is the abundance of rose bushes, trees, and flowers. People really make the most of their tiny front yards around here, and I love it. Not to mention McCarren Park two blocks away--which is where I'm headed to check out the Brooklyn Renegade outdoor craft fair. I am probably giving up any small amount of street cred I may have had by saying how much I love being surrounded by botany rather than broken glass--what a difference from the other end of the neighborhood! Hope you're having a lovely Saturday as well!
