Feel it!

Happy February! Happy Groundhog Day! Jackie Chan says, "Feel it!"

You know how sometimes it's the things that are closest to you, that you see most often, that you don't really see at all?

This amazingly horrible fast food restaurant is less than two blocks from my home. I see it every single day, and didn't realize how awesome their signage was until recently. (That's "Gyro" in the middle window--it's hard to read with the reflection.) I think more businesses should adopt this slogan.

Starbucks: "We Ain't Just Coffee"
Barnes & Noble: "We Ain't Just Books"
Apple: "We Ain't Just Computers" (I heard they recently branched out into feminine hygiene)

Speaking of fried chicken (and things that ain't fried chicken), how do you say "chicken and biscuits" in Chinese?

I don't know how to say it, but I know what it looks like! I was delighted to spot a Popeye's in Chinatown yesterday.

Speaking of Chinatown, I also found an awning with not one, not two, but three spelling errors in it! A new record!

The third error is "Nooddle Soup" which is a little hard to read in this small photograph.

If you believe a rodent can predict the weather, we're in for six more weeks of winter. Dammit.

I experienced an unexpected drop in my "official" workload this week--two dogs were taken off of my route suddenly (one temporarily, one for good), and I've been granted a short sabbatical from newspaper writing until my employer can afford to pay me. I've decided to look at it as a gift of time, and I'm going to finish editing my manuscript by Friday. Only 42 pages (out of 327) to go!

It's cold and dreary, but February has some treats in store for us: the superbowl is coming up next weekend (the Saints can suck a fat one, those cheaters!) and then Valentine's Day and Chinese New Year happen at the same time! There's excitement in the air. Can you feel it?
